Kohli emerges as a leading run scorer from India’s side, which was 373, runs including 2 half-centuries and one century. Kohli was only player from India’s team to score a century in whole series. Though team India do not progress towards final, in last match of India, got victory over Sri Lankan team, which keeps them in argument until group stage’s final fixture. Chasing a mammoth score of 321 runs, Kohli came out to crease when score of India was 86 runs for 2 wickets. Kohli went with own style of batting and score 133 runs off 86 balls remain unbeaten and took India to win that match. Kohli becomes Man of Match for this great effort, which includes scoring 24 runs in a single over.
2012 Asia Cup
Kohli was named as vice-captain of ODI team of India for Asia Cup in 2012 in month of March. Kohli scores 183 runs off just 148 balls in 5th match of this series against team of Pakistan, recording joint 4th highest score in ODIs by one Indian. Kohli came to middle of ground to bat when India didn’t even open its account of runs and lost one wicket too. Kohli struck one six and 22 fours and took India to one successful record chase for 330 runs. This is now Kohli’s highest score till date in One Day Internationals or ODIs and also is highest score by an individual in Asia Cup. This inning of Kohli was highest individual score in an ODI against Pakistan surpassing Brian Lara’s 156 runs, which was previous record.
Kohli achieves second spot within latest ICC Player Rankings for an ODI batsman, it is also best in career of Kohli. This came after conclusion from Sri Lanka-India 5 match ODI series, which took place in August, 2012. On 15th September 2012, Kohli becomes ODI Cricketer of Year at an ICC Annual Award Function held in Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo.
